Microsoft claimt patent lichaamsenergie

Microsoft heeft succesvol een patent geclaimd voor de techniek om het lichaam - de huid - als stroomgeleider en opslagmedium te gebruiken.

Patentnummer 6,754,472 beschrijft een methode waarin energie via het lichaam getransporteerd wordt naar allerlei elektronische aparaatuur die op of in het lichaam kan worden gedragen en de communicatie daartussen.

In de claim staat onder meer het gebruik van polshorloges die geen batterij hebben, maar het lichaam als energiebron gebruiken. Andere voorbeelden zijn headsets, PDA's die aan de riem kunnen worden gedragen en kleine schermpjes. Het is niet geheel duidelijk of dit patent ook het gebruik van RFID-chips in het lichaam bevat. Microsoft zegt dat dit soort elektronische aparatuur niet schadelijk is voor het lichaam omdat het slechts een kleine hoeveelheid straling afgeeft.

"The company proposes using pulsed AC or DC signals to power the devices. A 100Hz signal could be used to power one device, while a 150Hz signal could be used to power another, the company said, and data signals can be modulated on top of these power signals. Furthermore, Microsoft said, the physical resistance offered by the human body could be used to create a virtual keyboard on a patch of skin. And just to make sure it has covered all its bases, the filing concludes with a reference for Fido. "It will be apparent," it says, "that the body may be that of a wide variety of living animals and need not be limited to being a body of a human being."
